周二，Jessica Hotz在Meijer西侧Patriot Center商场开张了自己的Tiers Designer Cakes蛋糕店（115 Susan Drive, Suite H）。以前它是DecadenceBakery and Pastries的所在地。
Hotz表示自己从能记事起就开始喜欢烹饪和烘焙，三四岁时看完儿童节目《Sesame Street》之后就开始看美食节目《Frugal Gourmet》。作为她13岁生日的礼物，她的父母带她去了威尔顿（Wilton）上蛋糕装饰课程，那时她就难以自拔了。
她表示：“我确实不记得自己何时对烹饪开始感兴趣的。”
2007年，她从肯代尔大学获得烘焙和糕点副学士学位，她曾在芝加哥一家法式糕点店和一家商业区餐厅工作。随后，她前往布卢明顿（Bloomington），离父母更近，在Janet’s Cakes和伊利诺伊州立大学餐饮部工作。
她将自己的新店描述为一家提供独一无二定做蛋糕的“高档蛋糕店”。她专攻软糖工作、蛋糕雕花、装饰。理想的情况下，她希望人们至少提前一周进行蛋糕定做预约，至多提前1个月预约来制作更为精美的蛋糕。
每份食物3美元起价，Hotz表示：“如果你能想象出来，就有可能做成。”
未预约的顾客可以购买纸杯蛋糕和当周甜饼口味；本周会有更多的纸杯蛋糕和巧克力裂纹曲奇。

NORMAL— A Twin City woman with a lifelong interest in cooking has opened a specialtycake shop in Normal.
JessicaHotz opened Tiers Designer Cakes, 115 Susan Drive, Suite H, Tuesday in the Patriot Center strip mall, west of Meijer. It isthe former location of Decadence Bakery and Pastries.
Hotzsaid she has loved cooking and baking for as long as she can remember, watching“Frugal Gourmet” after she was done watching “Sesame Street” as a child of 3 or 4. As a present for her 13th birthday, her parents got her cakedecorating lessons with Wiltonand she was hooked.
“Ireally don’t remember a time when I wasn’t interested in cooking,” she said.
Aftergraduating from Kendall College with an associate’s degree in baking andpastry in 2007, she worked at a French pastry shop and a downtown restaurant,both in Chicago.She then moved to Bloomington to be closer toher parents, working at Janet’s Cakes and Illinois State University catering.
Shedescribes her new business as an “upscale cake shop” that offers one-of-a-kind,made-to-order cakes. She specializes in fondant work, gumpaste flowers, pipingwork and carved cakes. Ideally, she’d like a minimum of one week’s noticefor cake orders, and up to a month for more elaborate ones.
Pricesbegin at $3 per serving, and Hotz said, “if you can imagine it, something’spossible.”
Walk-incustomers can purchase the cupcake and cookie flavor of the week; this week’sare s’more cupcakes and chocolate crackle cookies.
