区域餐厅、商店为WINGS做出贡献















       从左边开始,Nina Stephenson和Sue Rogers与美食主席Jan Sheppard谈论即将到来的Taste Takes Flight慈善活动。

       18家餐厅和另外18家企业将在第二届年度Taste Takes Flight活动上提供饮料、美食和购物服务,Taste Takes Flight是WINGS(Women in Need Growing Stronger)的资金筹集者,WINGS是一个专门为那些遭受家庭暴力的妇女和儿童提供安全舒适的房屋、咨询和过渡住房的组织。
       这个高档活动由Women of Wings组织,期间将会有9次现场厨师展示、18个西北部郊区餐厅提供的300多种食物样品、由里士满(Richmond)国际美酒和奶酪之家(International House of Wine & Cheese)提供的美酒,以及与当地零售商共同举办的精品购物活动。

       Stay表示:“作为社区的一份子,我们要为当地的慈善做更多的事情,WINGS是一项伟大的活动。”今年,他将制作简单的菜品,经典凯撒沙拉配传统牧羊人羊肉和牛肉派。

Area restaurants,shops, take on WINGS

Eighteenrestaurants and another 18 businesses will be serving up sips, samples andshopping during the second annual “Taste Takes Flight,” a fundraiser for WINGS— Women in Need Growing Stronger which provides a safe house, counseling andtransitional housing for women and children who are victims of domesticviolence.
Organizedby the Women of Wings, the upscale event will present nine on-stage chefdemonstrations, more than 300 food samples from 18 northwest suburbanrestaurants, wine tastings by the International House of Wine & Cheese in Richmond, plus boutiqueshopping with local retailers.
Anestimated 400 guests are expected to raise upward of $60,000 to benefit thewomen’s shelter at the April 27 fundraiser to be held at The Meadows Club in Rolling Meadows.
Helpfor women
“Weall have wonderful husbands and can’t imagine being in a domestic violencesituation and not having anywhere to turn,” said Nina Stephenson, co-chair ofthe event who previously was a pro bono attorney at a women’s crisis center inHouston, Texas, and has a personal goal to raise enough money at this event topay for a full-time manager at the WINGS safehouse.
Alongwith co-chair Sue Rogers, Jan Sheppard, Suzanne Poggio and 26 other Women ofWINGS, Stephenson and the event committee have worked hard to create anenticing culinary event, thanks to the generous donations of time and resourcesby area chefs.
ChefGaetano Nardulli, who recently opened NEAR restaurant in Barrington, will be participating in TasteTastes Flight for the first time this month. The KendallCollege culinary graduate who spenttime in Italydeveloping his innovative approach to traditional cuisine, will bedemonstrating his recipe for an English pea and green asparagus risotto.
“Thisis our first event locally,” Nardulli said, “and we have to get more people tocome to Barringtonto eat instead of going into the city.”
Francesca’sFamiglia has been a mainstay in Barrington for more than six years, with a goalto become a neighborhood restaurant even though it’s part of a larger chain,said Eustacio Duarte, general manager, who will be participating in this eventfor the first time as well.
Francesca’schefs will be preparing homemade gnocchi or potato flour dumplings tossed in alight tomato basil sauce and smothered with a melted mozzarella cheese with adrizzle of extra virgin olive oil.
TheodoreStay, executive chef for the Park Avenue Wine Bar and McDonigal’s restaurantsin Barrington,is participating in “Taste Takes Flight” for the second year.
“Beingin the community, we do a lot for local charities and WINGS is a great event,”Stay said. He’ll be keeping his samples simple this year by offering Caesarsalad tastings along with a traditional Shepherd’s pie of lamb and beef.

WildAsparagus chef/owner Jeramie Campano will be sampling his locally famous cheesepuffs along with a smoked salmon parfait. Although he won’t reveal the secretsof his cheese puffs, he will be selling oven-ready versions to go at the event,he said.
