You may recall in January our slideshow ofour experience judging the regional semi-finals for the S. Pellegrino AlmostFamous Competition alongside chefs Jean Joho, Jon-Carl Lachman (who wonnationally in the first competition a decade ago), David Posey and ChrisMacchia, among others. Our choice was KendallCollege student Jennifer Kim, and thisweekend in Napa Valley, another, even more illustriouspanel of chef judges including Chef Joho, Eric Ripert, Gary Danko, Susur Lee,Tony Mantuano, Michel Richard and Bob Hurley gave the national prize to Kim aswell. She won over competitors from nine other regions in the U.S. and Canada for her dish, a Chard-RolledDuck Roulade. That netted her $10,000 and a one-year paid apprenticeship withone of the chef judges; she also won the Mystery Basket contest, one of severalside competitions, and comes home with a total of $22,000 in total winnings.
